About Celiac Teens

Celiac Teens was created in February of 2002 and is ran by myself (Reyanna Klein) and my husband, Jeremy Klein.

I was sick for all 20 years of my life before I found out about Celiac Disease. The few months leading up to my diagnosis, I was extremely ill. By chance, I received an e-mail: a hypo-thyroidism newsletter. It was there that I found out that doctors were continuously overlooking Celiac Disease in patients. I was pre-med at the time, and I had never heard about it! (Even with a Medical Terminology course under my belt.)

That very second, I did some research on CD; and I was shocked to find out that I had just about every symptom. That day, I made an appointment with a new doctor (I had already seen five, and they couldn’t help me… just told me it was all in my head and handed me some Prozac). The new doctor (of internal medicine) I saw had barely heard of the disease, and he left the examining room to get a medical journal from his office, so he could look it up. He said, “Oh, this is rare. I doubt you have this. But we’ll test you.” And it came up positive.

I was finally diagnosed with Celiac Disease when I was 20 years old, in October 2001. I was down to 107 pounds at that point, and I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without fainting. I went on the diet RIGHT AWAY, and I saw a GI a couple weeks later. They told me: the only real test is the diet. It worked. :)

I was in college at the time and totally lost when it came to eating and living the new lifestyle. I was unable to find anything online for teens or young adults with Celiac Disease, so I created this website to help others! :)

We hope this site helps you out in some way or another, and that you have the chance to help someone out as well. Enjoy!
